Summary:

Establish a culture of continuous improvement while safely organizing and managing the production operations to increase throughput, maximize profits, and maintain a high level of quality and service for our customers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create and effectively manage production safety system
  • Communicate and practice Welch culture and core values daily
  • Be Flexible with time and availability; working through supervisors and maintenance to accomplish business goals
  • Build the Belvidere plant operating systems (e.g., waste tracking procedures, PM schedules, flow of material, etc.)
  • Identify and execute daily production staffing needs and long-term staffing plan hire new associates
  • Develop a cross-training matrix to help develop associates and build depth
  • Establish a communication forum for direct reports and keep team informed of critical initiatives and objectives and hold team accountable
  • Continually audit safety, quality, and key operating processes to seek improvement
  • Organize and staff an efficient Maintenance team with detailed Roles, Responsibilities, and Expectations. Generate Maintenance Budget and manage costs
  • Organize and staff an efficient Shipping team with detailed Roles, Responsibilities, and Expectations
  • Coordinate teamwork and communication across Production, Maintenance, and Shipping
  • Manage Labor costs
  • Continuous safety improvements (OSHA)
  • Continuous improvement plans (machine, building, maintenance, crews, etc.)  

Primary Functions:

1.Safety Committee:

As part of your daily duties you have exposure and contact with the production team. This gives us an extra set of eyes to look for areas to improve, the ability to coach as you come into contact and to bring your findings to the Safety Committee meeting to help build a strong Safety culture.

2. Training:

Direct involvement in ongoing process training of Belvidere Production team. This may involve working periods of time on the off shift to ensure that the training is effective and the recipients of the training can fully comply with our work instruction.

3. Staffing:

Personally interview all new hires to determine cultural alignment and fit for the position. Drive the on-boarding process with support of HR and direct supervisors to develop new talent to understand expectations, opportunities, and work safely in their new environment. Plan weekly staffing to cover openings and vacations seamlessly always looking for ways to increase throughput without using overtime. Always be looking ahead for potential upgrades or openings and push cross-training across shifts to be prepared for any eventuality.

4. Maintenance Planning:

Work through the maintenance manager to plan for all projects and PM's focused on predictive and preventative measures as opposed to fire fighting. When fire fighting is necessary, make sure to give the Maintenance team all the support and resources to resolve issues quickly with minimal downtime in the plant. Help assign work order priorities to keep the plant running smoothly.

5. Shipping:

Work with the Shipping manager to plan staffing, outside carriers and long term freight coverage to have multiple options for getting loads to customers in a timely fashion and at a reasonable rate. Support the department to make sure all equipment and resources are adequate and realign regularly as business conditions change.

6. Trend Analysis:

Review Safety, Quality, Downtime, and Productivity data to analyze areas for improvement and address quickly before becoming major issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of Corrugated Experience
  • Previous Plant Manager experience preferred
