Summary

Leads safety efforts to build and maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment and establish "Safety Culture" at each facility within region. Coordinates development and implementation of safety measures as directed by corporate EHS Director. Responsible for training, monitoring, communicating and enforcement of safety system and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Work with EHS Director to conduct a baselines EHS audit/assessment for each site. Document and prioritize the findings. Work with regional management team to prepare a work plan to abate findings. Update EHS Director monthly.
2. Chair plant safety committee for each location in region. Writes/Approves written minutes of the monthly safety committee meeting and uploads to Welch shared directory. Trains and directs site safety committee members to ensure completion of monthly safety system inspections and saves completed inspections to the Welch shared directory.
3. Active participating member of the Welch Group safety committee.
4. Oversee implementation of New Hire Safety Training Program (On Boarding) for each new associate; coordinates additional Safety Training as required.
5. Works with site Management and Group Safety Director to ensure all elements of the Welch Safety System are followed and all corrective actions completed.
6. Coordinates monthly plant safety system audits; shares with management, and publishes audit results and uploads to shared directory. Follows up on action items to completion.
7. Maintain effective communication through training, Safety Shorts and plant meetings to enhance "Safety Culture". Target Production, Office Staff, Transportation, Sales Teams
8. Coordinate/Facilitate timely reporting of safety incidents to EHS Director and appropriate Management. Leads Incident Investigation process as required.
9. Work with HR to implement injury case management, as needed.
10. Implement and track Accident Waiting to Happen (AWtH)/Near Miss program and train as needed
11. Work with sites to maintain site-specific Safety Manual and SDS-GHS documentation (electronic and paper)
12. Participate in "Train the Trainer" programs with EHS Director
13. Additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

1. High school degree and 5-7 years of manufacturing experience.
2. Passion for safety and building a strong Safety System and culture.
3. Leadership and has earned respect of co-workers.
4. Ability to influence and strong communication skills.
5. Attention to Detail with excellent follow up skills
6. Excellent safety record
7. Attends key safety training as able or directed, e.g. OSHA 10 and 30 Hour classes, First Aid/CPR/AED
8. Access to email and text and the ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
9. Travel required to plants within region.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate with team members. The employee frequently is required to use hands, reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally have to climb ladders and work from heights. The employee could occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to ambient temperatures. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
